My two gerbils I got together, both female, have just fought. Rafe was definitely the one who started the fight, and I am not surprised. She tended to 'bully' Sweets by taking her food, pushing her off the wheel, ect.. but they also got along. Groomed eachother and nested together. I am wondering if I should try getting another gerbil for Sweets? She is one of the gentlest gerbils I have ever owned, and she sometimes sleeps in the palm of my hand. I do not want to risk another declan though, and I think I am going to keep Rafe alone for now. She seems happier without Sweets around anyways. Will Sweets be okay alone if I do need to leave her alone for a few weeks? I don't want her lonely, but it takes me awhile to find gerbils where I live if I get her another.

They will both be fine alone for a short while anyway, and maybe Rafe well even settle with a friend somewhere down the line. If she is already dominant, then she may well split to a quiet adult so that she starts off as 'boss' and there is no reason for another declan down the road.
With Sweets, if she is a bit too accepting and peacekeeping then if you put her to a younger pup, that pup may over throw her as she ages?
How old are your 2 now?

Im not sure their exact ages, but they are both fully grown, I would guess 4-6 months.
Im just worried about splitting a gerbil with Rafe. She's very protective of her territory and wheel.. I think that's what caused the fight.
With Sweets I would hope to find an adult gerbil, hopefully one that's as calm and friendly as her. Or find a more dominant but still friendly type. I would most likely avoid pups just because it's a bit harder to tell how they will react when older.
