Hello, I have a male gerbil named Spencer in which I adopted over two weeks ago. He has settled in nicely, from going from a smaller than critter trail cage box, to a nice 108 gallon tank. He seems to be happy, but I want him to be fully happy, to the extent. I care about him a lot. He's almost one year old I was told, and has a calm nature. He's a little enegertic and on the look out when any sudden noise has been made. (Skittish behavior in gerbils) I haven't taken him to a vet but he has no signs of ill ness, although is he a little over weight due to the fact that the previous owners food had LOADS of sun flower seeds in his mix. He was greasy looking haha. He has no abnormal behavior and has never offered to bite. He's never had a companion, I would love to go purchase another male for his well being. I watch and sometimes play with him for at least six hours a day while I read about gerbils. This is my first gerbil, I'm taking every step precautiously. I would love to know your guys advice for adopting a new furry friend, specifically a male for him. I've read several methods, and I would like to your suggestion on getting him a friend. Or if I should. I believe I should since they are social animals and he isn't tame yet. I wanted to save another pet anyways. Could you tell me more about this and / or the best methods or some method and precautions I could use to introducing him into a new friend? I was planning to do another new territory for Spencer, so maybe it could reduce the chances of them fighting. I would love to know what you think. I would much rather have a furry friend as a companion rather then me.
