Hi I have a gerbil who is fine hyper, runs on wheel, and chews cardboard like crazy. But idk if u guys have seen when a hedgehog when mad or scared curls up and sticks his/her spines out (I used to own one) but that's what my gerbil sometimes does he sticks his fur out and sticks his head in the bedding. I'm thinking he may be scared because I have a gerbil in a tank under a desk below him. What are ur thoughts?

When gerbils are scared, they thump their feet in a pattern, cower behind or under shelter, and move very fast and jerky, disappearing at the slightest movement.

Does he have a nest or house? I have one who's rubbish at nest building and I've often seen him sleep like that - head tucked under him & fur fluffed out. I assume the fur thing is a way of keeping warm because he's lying on top of his bedding instead of being snuggled up underneath it. We gave Ernie a nice house to snuggle in & also put a towel over the top of the tank at night to keep him warm.
