For pups around 15 days old is the nipple method reliable? This is my first litter and the pups and they all seem to have little dots like nipples, some have more than others. Some have 8 and others only have 4 or 6.
Should I wait until they are older to sex them?

What I did with my litters was used the nipple method and wrote down what I thought each were. Then I rechecked at about 4 weeks to see if they stayed the same or not. My first litter I was wrong with two as they were late bloomers. The second litter, all were right with the nipple method.
It never hurts to recheck them at a later date.

I checked our 2nd litter of 4 at 7 days & thought we had 2 boys & 2 girls. I noted their markings so I knew which was which & when I checked them at 5 weeks I'd got them all right. The nipples were much easier to see on the CP Agouti girl (pink skin) than they were on the black girl though - I really wasn't too sure about her.

They all seem to have nipples but some seem to have a bigger gap between the urethra and anus. I'll check them again as they get older and become more developed, thanks guys  ! |

I trust the gap method over the nipple method. Also keep an eye out for more prominent scent glands. It's not enough to ID a male for sure, but if a pup seems to have nipples but has a large gap, also having a prominent SG means most likely male.
