Can anyone give me some information on this type of gerbil a female ruby-eyed white or spoted argent are these gerbils half blind and rely more on scent and smell? The reason I ask is the other day a female co-worker put her hand in there tank and did not bite her but when I tried it they grabbed my thumb and pinky and started with the biting.is it that they just don't like me? I tried the gerbils in the other tank and they where just fine with me. any information on this behavior?

Red/pink eyed gerbils have worse vision than dark eyed gerbils, but gerbils don't rely on vision much to begin with.

More likely to be some smell on your hand. My wife has a similar problem, our boys like to nip her if she leaves her hand in, but they don't bite me or my daughter's hand.

Than you Shotting Star and vexorg, I consider if it would have been a smell other gerbils would react the same way. I kind of figured there was something about her eye sight cause when I approach the tank she reach's up with her nose up high and start's sniffing.
