I've been gone for the weekend, and my sister has a cat in our house. I've owned my little gerbil for a few months now. I always keep my doors shut and room locked tight with the cage sealed for protection. I came home today, and my stepdad apparently had left the door open or something..apparently the cat knocked over the cage He said he came in here and once he got my gerbil he was just dragging around.. I'm crying so much because it hurts my heart to see my little buddy dragging his back legs in the cage.. I checked him, he doesn't seem to be in pain but it still hurts me. This just happened today, he seems to have a little hole in his back leg and a hole about an inch from his head on his back. I didn't want to handle him that much so this is all I saw. We are taking him to the vet tomorrow to be humanely euthanized if there isn't a chance and i don't want him suffering especially not being happy gerbil who can't even run away from things when scared or run on his wheel.. What can I do to comfort him? Please help me this is serious and he's my only pet. I love him. His name is Spencer

Sorry to hear about Spencer. Keep him warm, and offer him the water bottle every few hours as it will be difficult for him to drink with his hind legs paralyzed. Unfortunately, there may not be much that can be done. It may be he will pass tonight; his injuries sound pretty severe. If not, it is good that you are taking him to vet and are prepared to euthanize him.
He is a cute little guy from your avatar picture. Just try to keep him as comfortable and warm as you can. If you have a hot water bottle, you can fill it and put it in his cage with some bedding on top for him to lie on.

What a distressing situation, Octavia, did Spencer make it?

I'm so sorry you came home to find your gerbil this way. Cats do tend to deliver paralyzing bites to rodents and there is nothing that can be done.

There is a slim chance it's shock or temporary damage. One of our boys had a completely back limp leg after their declan fight. It slowly returned to normal over a week. He was still mobile enough to eat and drink.
I'd be prepared for the worst with the vet.
