H,
I need to buy 2 young pups, preferable aged 7 weeks, where would be the best place to buy these from? Are there any breeders on here in the Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire or Cambridgeshire areas?
Many thanks xx

Wrong area for anyone I know - but I am sure someone on here will know someone close to you and reply soon...
Are they to go with an existing older gerbil, to go together or for breeding themselves when they are older? This could affect the gerbils you choose to home.

I have had the best luck with Preloved, have a look at the adverts on there. You may have to be prepared to travel a bit unless you are lucky. Sometimes people advertise when they are expecting a litter and you can reserve them in advance, which is helpful in getting young pups of exactly the age you want.
I have also got pups via gum tree and pets4homes. I've found that if you are patient you can generally get what you want if you don't mind a drive. Helps if you are not fussy about colours etc too. Hope that helps!

Unless anyone on here knows of a reputable breeder. xx

Bump.... Would you believe, I have contacted Pets at Home stores as follows: Biggleswade (my local store who called around other stores) - Huntingdon, Cambridge, Peterborough, Bedford, Letchworth, Stevenage... and all of these stores only had male gerbils!! My poor lonely girl Cerys is so depressed, she's stopped gnawing cardboard and rarely surfaces I am desperate to try and find her some female friends. I have also checked preloved, pets4homes, Gumtree and local facebook selling sites. Any other ideas?

soo sorry to hear about Cerys, I hope with some time and extra attention she will perk up soon. Do you have Craigslist or Kijiji there? I'm in Canada so we have those and sometimes they have gerbils. Do you have any small rescue groups near you or RSPCA nearby? My local rescue group is great, there is one only for small animals and that is where I've gotten 5 of my pets from.
Good luck and I'm sure some gerbils will turn up.
Take care,
Tammy

I have tried all local rescues, those that do have gerbils are over 12 months old. I need young pups to bond with Cerys. xx

Hi, just an idea- I've just been chatting to Betty on another thread - she told me that she has had great success introducing females over 2 (that have never been bred) to males. Your Cerys would be ideal for that as she's nearly 2.
Have a look at the thread.. It's in the behaviour and introducing gerbils part.
At that age they are very very very unlikely to have pups. Male female intros are also quite easy. If there are males available in your area, especially an older single rescue one, that might be your best bet. It will only work with one other gerbil though, so you will obviously have the same problem again when Cerys dies. Just a thought! Good luck.

Ahhh thanks for your reply woketteuk!
I managed to find 2 female pups today, so they are currently settling before I introduce Cerys!
Wish me luck!!! I'll post most more soon! xx
