Hello. So, this morning I awoke to find my gerbil had passed away. Last night though, she looked like she was pregnant, which would be impossible because she lives with her sister. The gerbil who passed, Lily, was very bloated and pear-shaped. She didn't move anywhere, only once every hour. She was breathing slowly, and would lay on her side or back, legs outstretched. I have videos and pictures on my phone to show my dad because he didn't believe me. I think it was her scent gland that I saw when she was on her back, it was a very thin point shaped oval of missing hair, so you could she her skin. Other than the fact that it sometimes gets very cold in my room, my gerbils didn't seem to have a problem with it last winter. I'd say she was about 1, and I use aspen shavings and they live in a tank. My dad looked it up and said she probably had an ovarian cyst, but I don't know because it says those go away on their own? My dad also wouldn't drive her to the vet even when I asked. (sorry we're poor) I just wanted to know; How did she die?

soo sorry to hear about your gerbil passing. How many days was she looking bloated and didn't seem well? It could've been cancer or a heart condition. Gerbils should really be kept in a room that is at least 60 degrees, preferably warmer, 65-75 degrees F.- I use an oil heater when it gets below 60 in my room and my gerbils have nests they make out of paper towels and cardboard pieces. If you are cold, then so are they. I hope your lone gerbil will be okay by herself? Make sure you give her extra attention and bedding to keep her warm enough.

As far as I knew, she was only looking like that for about a few hours and then I fell asleep. I really want to give Bounce (Lily's sister) as much attention as I can, but she is at my dad's and I see my dad every other weekend for four days. And do you think I should get an oil lamp? Also, how much food should I give her?
