I have some gerbils with light mottling on their rumps and would like to breed for extreme mottling.
I would be interested in learning the process of how to breed for this safely and responsibly, of course!
For you more experienced breeders out there, how would I go about achieving this?

I'm not sure how your post got missed - I have only just seen it. Apologies.
Did you find out anything about Mottling and the Extreme White gene? I have only feebly tried to create more white on gerbils without the Extreme White Gene and it seemed more down to luck as to the white that got thrown up in the early stages.
I had some great gerbils with wide face blazes and light spotting on the rump (from a barely spotted mum and unspotted dad), but quite often they would spawn offspring with barely a head spot (even if partnered to another heavily spotted gerbil). It was all to do with modifiers (I read) and I didn't really learn enough about it as I was after another aim in my gerbils.
I am sure there is plenty to read about this on some of the breeder websites - breeders who are aiming for this in their stock - but I think you would certainly need the Extreme White gene to see some great results. I think Extreme White is classed as more than 75% white.
What stock do you currently have? And where about are you in the world incase someone has stock which could help your lines?
