My pair are finaly parents of 5 two girls 3 boys they are about 30 days old, planning on moveing them out of there parents tank into there own tank, I think I may have a home for the two girls. I just might leave one boy with Howie & Dazy or move Howie out and put him in with the boy's, the thing is I once tried separateing dazy from Howie and she was depressed until I returned him back to her. and she was very happy after that.

Congratulations!
Many gerbils get depressed on their own, so could you leave the two female pups with Dazy and leave just one male pup with Howie (rehoming the other two boys instead)?

I figure yes after all they are animals

I accidentally left 2 boys (thinking they were girls) with Gizzy after I took dad & the rest of the litter out. They stayed with her & helped with the 2nd litter. Once the 2nd litter reached 5 weeks I took all the boys out & left Gizzy to live permanently with her 2 daughters from 2nd litter. I still have the four boys (2 from 1st & 2 from 2nd litter) together. They're now 9 months & 8 months & get along fine although they are in a huge tank with plenty of space.
So, you could leave one or two boys with Dazy for now & take Howy & the other boy(s) out to stay together. Dazy will be fine without Howy so long as she's not on her own. Then if you have a mix of sexes in the 2nd litter Dazy can stay permanently with a daughter (or two) & you can move all the boys out.

well I think Dazy is a little stressed there all in a 20 ga tank they mabe over crowed these little critters are growing fast, but I'll be moveing some out soon, at first my idea was to separate Howie from Dazy after her first litter but after seeing her one day I removed Howie she was depressed and lonely.I also have Sally witch I think any day now she should give birth to some pups, she's fat and has the pear shape but I have mistaken her birth date for Dazy I had it more or less calculated. t1gger how do you're take to the water bottle I've seen one of my boy's drinking from it but the girls seem a little hesitant to do so.

Mosin - have you decide what to do yet - as I really hope you aren't going to home a male and female pups to the same person - either together or as singles. Perhaps this friend should wait until a second litter if you don't have enough of the sexes you need to home sensibly?
Also, is Sally a female in a separate tank on her own or does she have her husband in with her? Either way, if her and Dazy have their litters just a week or so apart, you can match up their pups from 4 weeks and make better homing numbers.
Unless you are planning on leaving Howie and Dazy together for a third litter?

The girls may be drinking from the bottle when you're not around. With our litters they were all with either mum or dad up to 6 weeks so they had a parent helping them learn up to that point & I made sure the ones I eventually moved out were eating/drinking properly before taking them away from mum/dad.
If the girl pups are going to a new home then they could move stay with dad until they reach 6 weeks by which point they should be using the bottle with no problems.
As Betty says, please don't rehome male/female siblings together as they'll breed & in-breeding can throw out all kinds of health issues in the pups plus you'd potentially be adding up to 16 more pups who'll all be needing good homes. We've had four litters (total of 19 pups) from 2 sets of parents & all either stayed with us or went to close family so we know they have excellent homes. But with the numbers you'd be producing you may run out of options for homing...

well I separated Dazy from Howie in a 10ga tank with one little girl, unfortunately one of the girls died, I picked her up one day from the tank had her in my hand she hopped out landed on the edge of the tank, took her to the vet. he said there was nothing we could do. I blame my self for that I feel so bad right now. the rest of them are ok. Sally is a a mystery on giveing birth she has all the tattle tale signs and the pear shape and eating a lot. Guess I'll just have to wait. Need to purchase a ten gallon for Sally. I think I'll stop them from having litters guess I got a little more than what I bargained for. Once Sally's litter are old enough to sex them I'll leave the girls with Sally and the boy's with Harry.

Sorry to hear you lost one of the girls. They're so fast when they reach that age. I stopped lifting ours out of the tank & used a jar to get them from one place to another until they'd calmed down enough not to jump.
Just a word of caution with Sally's litter - it's best not to keep more than 3 girls together as they're more feisty & more likely to fight than boys. Some would say don't have more than 2 together but we have 3 female trios consisting of mum & 2 daughters & so far all have been ok. So if Sally has more than 2 girls it'd be best to split them into groups of two or three.

Had you moved her out before she had the pups or was she still in with Howie the evening after you heard the pups - as Howie could have mated with her again if they were still together.
Anyway - now she has her new babies she will be looking after them with her daughter - and will quite forget about Howie not being there...
Shame about Sally in the end - and if she is on her own - perhaps she can be split with one of the new female pups?

well my best guest is Howie got to her on the first litter witch are growing fast, I had noticed that Dazy was a little fat and wide at the pelvic are then I noticed a lump and I said oh no! I hope she's not sick but she would act normally as she would hopping up on the ledge of the tank to climb in my hand,(she only does that when she wants to)I examined the round lump never thinking she was pregnant again. actually it was early morning 5:00am, I wanted Howie to meet his 4 boy's the look like agouti's so I guess they are all males we will see later on. wish one or two of them were girls I promised one or two to a friend of mine. Well what do you know! Harry is after Sally! good lord!
