What's better for the gerbils sand?

I usually keep it in a jar but I've also gave them a well disinfected small plant pot to climb into, they usually kick the sand out of the jar so the other pair can't get any sand. What's the best opinion? I used to use a bowl but had to wash it after every gerbil.

I don't think they are able to kick much sand out when I keep it upright.

www.kilnerjar.co.uk/index.php/kilner-range/preserve-jars/1l-vintage-preserve-jar.html I use this, about half filled and mostly buried in their bedding so they can hop in and out easily, the wide shoulders and fairly small neck means they only ever manage to kick a tiny bit of sand out.

I brought some deep soup bowls from a charity shop when I first started out - but they can kick the sand out quite easily when they really get in the mood.

I do like the idea of the glass jars for sand baths, so I may see if I can find a few of them to experiment with.
