I was wondering which vet I should continue with, we tried them out they are both nice. My first option is a rabbit vet that had told me when I didn't know as much about gerbils that the surgery to remove a SGT would be very risky and my gerbils would not recover well if they survived (I am now paying for that).
My other option is a vet that "enjoys treating cats, dogs, rabbits, guinea pigs, and other fuzzy creatures " but seems to have given us the right antibiotics and everything. It also says in her bio that she worked in a predominantly exotic animals clinic for several years and when I asked the receptionist if they had any small animal veterans she is who the receptionist sent me to.
Any opinions would be welcomed, if neither of them are good enough I might try to find another vet and see how it goes. Thanks!

I do like it when they have worked with exotics as it means they have a vast array of treatments in their head from all walks of life and they are more used to improvising and trying novel treatments and surgeries - as some things of course they have never seen before.
General rabbit vets - I have found - base everything just on that species (which isn't even a rodent of course or even that 'small') and they may have a professionally limited knowledge pool of just that as that is what they do day in day out - whereas 'exotics' basically covers hundreds of species and so hopefully more random knowledge is crammed into their brains helping them think laterally.
However, there are many general illnesses that gerbil get that can be diagnosed by any vet - and all vets can help stop pain so you could perhaps have a general vet if that is closer, and then save the specialist (if further away) for the more complicated treatments. I am registered with two vets for exactly that reason.

Great, the exotics vet did seem more open to new treatments. We have that clinic (which will be our preferred one) and an emergency one 5min away from our house (luckily we've never had to use it ). Thank you!
