Hello!
I lost my only Schimmel gerbil back 2 years ago when he passed away from old age. His last litter was with a Slate female and produced two gerbils: a black male and a PEW female. I have since then paired the brother and sister only for founder line reasons to get back a Schimmel. The results have been confusing because from their two litters, I've only had black or light nutmegs produced.
I could use some help figuring out the genetics specifically regarding the PEW female.
Here is what I have so far:
Schimmel Dad: Aa Cc[h] DD e[f]e[f] pp UwUw - Light Ruby Eyed Schimmel
Slate Mom: aa Cc[h] DD Ee Pp uw[d]uw[d] - Slate
Black Male Offspring: aa C* DD Ee[f] Pp Uwuw[d]
PEW Female Offspring: a* c[h]c[h] DD ee[f] p* Uwuw[d] (I do not know if she is Pp or pp and Aa or aa)
Offspring of Offspring:
Black: aa Cc[h] DD E* P* Uw*
Light Nutmeg: aa Cc[h] ee[f] P* Uw*
Now based on what I know if PEW's genetics, the P locus must always be pp. However according to Moonstone Gerbils genetics calculator, PEW can be Pp. (See image below)
Based on the last two litters of the PEW and Black gerbils, their pup color percentages have been:
Light Nutmeg: 50%
Black: 50%
My questions are:
1. Is it possible that the PEW is aa for sure or can she still be an Aa?
2. Is is possible for a PEW to be Pp based on the genetics and info I've provided here?
3. What is the actual likelihood of producing any Schimmel gerbil from the PEW and Black gerbil pair?
4. Do you have any advice to breed for Schimmels with the gerbils I have?
Thanks for reading!
