I was just talking to my neighbour who i watched her gerbils sooty and sweep a while ago, there very old and poor sweep has been sick and died but sooty has been eating her is thsi noral, do gerbils usually eat there dead friend. It's quite shocking When sally died geri sat next to her and sniffed her but didn't eat her

Although upsetting sometimes gerbils will try to dispose of deceased tank mates as in the wild the dead body would attract predators so they will sometimes do this. I have not seen this happen personally i am glad to say.

Ahh yeah i guess in the wild that makes sense and i'm glad it didn' hapen with my 2. Sooty and Sweep where like glue, alwasy together it was quite cute, she may have died during the night so was left to long and thats why it happened probably, i've never read about gerbils killing each other so i hope thats not what happened

I don't know, she found them in the morning so she probably died during the night.

I think it depends on the gerbil and maybe the size of the tank. When one has died in the night, mine tend to bury them and not go near that area of the tank.
