lololol! ;D
1/2"...is that 13mm? They sell 13mm at B&Q. I'm reasonably sure my current gerbs can't get through it just by looking at it, but smaller ones might (?). It's the same size we had for the rabbits as far as I remember.

Should be fine Mines 10mm but I have charming dipodils which are considerably smaller. Before the dips I used 1 inch by 1/2 inch.

As far as I could see, the B&Q stuff was square - so 1/2" squared. Now all I need to do is bribe someone to come with me to pick up a tank (or two, depends on the size of the second tank). Apparently the 10 or 15-gallon tank has gone, but the lady with the other 2 still has them. She's fairly local, but I don't see myself carrying even a 10-gallon fishtank very far. *sigh* Neither of us drive, so I'd have to go by bus and the bus stop is quite some distance from the house. I am currently attempting to bribe my brother to come with me and help carry the tank (or tanks). He is refusing. Both my parents also refuse to give me a lift in the car (Dad has an excuse - he's working). Oh for a Star Trek teleporter...

lololol! ;D 1/2"...is that 13mm? Whoops! I forgot you were on the other side of the pond! Booooo that you can't get a lift for picking up the tanks... I don't suppose there's a taxi service? Perhaps that would be expensive... Anyway I hope you can get the tanks, can't beat a deal like that (free = awesome).

(splash, splash ) I think it cost me £15 to get my last tank home by taxi - blasted thing was just too awkward to carry. Which is why I'm trying to bribe my brother. I figure it'll be cheaper to pay his and my bus fare and bribe money than to get a taxi. Admittedly, the last tank was about five miles further away than this one, but still... My sister now wants a tank for her hamster. Said hamster has just demolished her second water bottle in 2 weeks just by chewing the top of the spout (not to mention that it is really really really annoying if you're trying to work on the computer about 2 metres away while she's gnawing...) Anyone know if you *can* keep a hamster in a tank? Faith has 1 wooden stix thingy, a wooden ladder, three mineral blocks - and she prefers to chew either the bars or the water bottle. According to Zan, it's "because they're cold and she wants something cold to chew on". I didn't find that in any hamster book.

Well it would certainly confuse her that's for sure! ;D Our dearly departed hammie would spend hours chewing at the bars - it was her favourite past-time Caroline

And the worst sounds the gerbils ever make is "ticaticatica" of claws on glass or "crunchcrunchcrunch" with a paper plate. Aside from when they bang something wooden on the wall. Then I just move it either away from the wall or out of the viv, and it all goes quiet... With the hamster, if you take out everything possible she can use to get to the bars, she chews the water-bottle. It's maddening.

Eric's sister keeps her dwarfs in a 20gallon Long split... well, now it's just one, as the poor little hammy's sister died. but they're fine in a tank.

Thank you. Zan's theory goes out the window. I covered all but the last 5mm of the water-bottle spout so it wasn't "cold" and the hamster kept gnawing...My theory is she's trying to drive me mad. On the local tank front, Mum says she'll give me a lift if I clear up my room so she can see the space for it. Just as well as both my brothers refuse to help me collect it. My room currently looks like a bombsite because I've been hauling everything out of wardrobes, boxes, off shelves and tidying it up. 'Tis slow going, especially for an expert procrastinator...
