D is for dilute. It washes out the 'original' color of the gerbil. For example, a black gerbil carrying 'd' (which causes the dulute) would be more of a smoke color, or a little on the blue side... which is why it's called a "Blue" gerbil.
'd' isn't so common over here, and breeders are actively looking for it, though currently I don't know of any. I believe it's mainly over in the UK are (at least somewhere on that side of the pond)

Wow...genetics glad I plumped for Applied Physics at Uni
I've had (sorry...my daughter) 3 Gerbils for a week
All males from the same brood
One I believe is an Agouti...brown with flecks of black with a white belly the other two are identical slightly off white all over with pinkish eyes...
Can anyone confirm their genetic make-up
many thanks
Dave

The first male sounds like an Agouti, yes. For the other two, it's hard to say without pictures. Try looking through the guide linked below, and see what looks closest to their color. www.egerbil.com/pastel.html

My gerbils Jasper(Black) and Snowie(Spotted Argente)just had pups and I am really anxious to find out whatcolors they are going to be. Since Black is the more dominant gene, i assume, are the pups going to be solid colored

Actually, you'll get mainly Agouti and Spotted Agouti. The P* (black eyes) from Jasper is dominant over Snowie's pp (red eyes), but Snowie's A* (white-bellied) is dominant over Jasper's aa (self). If you'd like a more in-depth explanation, please start a new thread.

Oops! Yes, you're right. What I did was take the html code from the Lilac page and change it slightly to make the Argente page-- but it looks like I forgot to change the genotypes from aa to A*.

You will get all Agouti unless there are hidden recessives. If you would like a more in-depth explanation, please start a new thread.
