I use wire on my water bottle (like bendy garden wire) I put it around the nozzle of the bottle and then around the bottle a few times (at deferent levels up the bottle) and hook it over the top of the tank. I sometimes use tape just to sucure it on the outside. I also have to be careful that the gerbils can just reach the bottle and no more or they try to chew the plastic of the wire (especially one). I hope this helps and you understand what I mean as I am not sure I explained it too well. Sunshine

On all but one of my tanks I've attached a cage. The water bottle then attaches to the side of the cage. In the only tank that doesn't have a cage topper, I've done this:

I had one of my guys chew a water bottle top clean off. Then of course since there was no vacuum the water drained out into the bedding. I have found the best water bottle and it's only one that as worked for me. It is round on the top so they can't perch and eat and the spout is directly underneath the bottle so they can't pack it with bedding. It is Farnum Petproducts bottle. I only found it at one pet store which is a local chain not a national one.
