I saw the information on breeding meal worms; very useful! I don't know if I will keep them in the fridge anymore, then...it seems like that does more harm than good...the meal worms I got are relatively small, but there are 50 of them in that one container!
Anyway, I was wondering how often I should feed the gerbils meal worms?
Thanks,
Sam

Just as a treat! Not much! They contain a lot of fat and of course animal protein! I have to say that my Mongolian gerbils don't really like them (only 2)! They look at it in such a way if they don't know what to do with it! My duprasi gerbils love them!

Our mongolians much prefer waxworms ;D The mealworms have a nasty nip and the mongolians don't seem to appreciate it very much.
Although the cheesmans love them!, but I had to stop feeding them mealworms as it gave them terrible farts!. Although farting cheesmans was rather amusing but got a tad smelly ..

I haven't had any trouble with my mealworms yet. In fact, the gerbils will (play) fight over the worm even before I can get the second worm out to give! After one gerbil finishes, he immediately tries to find the other gerbil in hopes to steal the last remaining portion of worm he has not yet eaten. They go crazy over mealworms, and with no apparent side effect. They fight more over mealworms than sunflower seeds! (Probably because them getting mealworms is more rare.)
What about earthworms? It was raining one day, and earthworms were all over the sidewalk...I was tempted to feed them a couple...is this ok?

Some of my gerbils love mealworms... but I don't know what waxworms are... so... I keep the mealworms in the same room as the gerbils, it's about 25 degrees celsius in there... so they are mutating in a while, but I will feed the pops first... I don't want any beetles!
