My 2 grown gerbils are very bad at not eating the alfalfa pellets from their gerbil food mix. They will eat just about everything else I give them, but almost always leave ALL the pellets, especially the ones from the Gerri Premium Gerbil Food that I have been feeding them lately. These pellets are larger and darker green than the pellets in most other food varieties available here. Usually I don't like to refill their food bowl until they have eaten all of the last batch (to make sure they are getting a balanced diet) but they REALLY REALLY aren't eating these pellets and I don't want to be starving them of course! Any advice or experience with this?

Some of mine gerbils will not eat them either! Most of the times I wait one or two days and than I scatter these remaining pellets over their bedding and give them new food. I don't want them to starve either, however I think they will eat it when they will be very hungry!
It is common for animals, including gerbils, that they select the food they like the most! If you want to prevent this, you can give them only pellets! But I personally keep it with seed mixes! Maybe you can find a gerbil food with less or no pellets in it!

I quit feeding regular seed mixes because they only pick out certain seeds and leave the rest. Or one gerbil will pick out all the good stuff, and the others get left with the crappy food. So either way, it's not "balanced". Also, I wouldn't recommend leaving it in their dish untill they eat it. I tried that once because I ran out of food and they still had a dish full..well full of the crappy food. So I figured I had a few days. They were starving themselves and they they started fighting over it. They hoard their food, and if one gerbil found something "good" in bedding, they got into a ball fight over it. I then gave them both some sunflower seeds and they were fine. Luckilly.

What do you give them now than? Because I don't know any other food for gerbils than seed mixes? Do you feed them food for rats or something else? Or have you found a brand for gerbils? Ik keep feeding mine seed mixes, but I do select food that contain less things they don't like! Mine get these seed mixes, with sometimes a bit vegetables, fruit, dry bread, mealworms or dry cat food, etc. For me personally that is balanced enough! ;D

I feed Kaytee Exact. It's a hamster/gerbil mix and it's just colored, fruity smelling pieces..no seeds. Here's a link with the ingredients and stuff..Don't know if they have it anywhere besides the US and Canada.. www.kaytee.com/products/mammals/?pid=47121&aid=all&pcid=1 Actually today I bought a pound of seed mix just for a change because I was at a petshop that sells in bulk, so I can mix what I want. It'll be in the freezer for a week though to kill anymites. lol

I've asked around here, and everyone I asked from the Netherlands and Belgium have also never heard of it! So maybe it is not available in Europe!

I see that Animonda is the distributor of Kaytee products for Austria, Germany, The Netherlands, Switzerland, and Belgium. And I see that they have Kaytee Exact for Hamsters and Gerbils! In English: www.animonda.com/home/index.htm. In German: www.animonda.de/home/index.htm. But is not widely available in pet shops in the Netherlands. Maybe you can order it online!
