Hey Guys.
In January, I adopted out about 10 gerbils to a seemingly responsible small animal breeder in Binghamton NY. I say seemingly responsible because I did inspect her home and the conditions, and she did take very good care of her animals. Everybody was in a tank with Carefresh or aspen, etc. Well, she avoided my emails for about a month, between late Feb. and March. I received an email from her this morning saying she has to get rid of all of her pets (claims the husband is allergic) and is now down to a remaining 40 gerbils. She told me she wanted to give me "the first offer" but has already been in touch with local pet shops if I can't take them by Sunday. I told her I couldn't take all 40, but would like the 10 that she got from me, and that I can't have them until May 17, as she is 5 hours away from me right now, and I won't be able to go her way until then. She said she needs to "get rid" of them by Sunday, so it's a no go. I'm pretty upset and ashamed that I trusted her. I don't believe that it's her husbands allergies because of how long she has been raising these animals, along with a dog and a few cats. I suspect she is an animal hoarder and has been forced by a landlord, or somebody to "get rid of her animals" by Sunday. I know that these pet shops are readily accepting FORTY gerbils because it's free snake food. I'd hate to see these animals that I bred and loved be sent there. If anybody is in this area, I would feel great knowing that the gerbils I adopted to her are going to better homes. Her email is dellagold@aol.com and mine is jilliegerbil@gmail.com. Hope somebody can help.
