I second the "UK gerbils are fat" line ;D Although these pics are a bit old now, Pepper is still as fat as ever And guess what, she's female! ;D

And no, none offense taken... I adore my fat gerbils and find them quite entertaining and usually more docile (perhaps because they can't waddle away fast enough )

So it's fatbums you want is it? This is Lemmy (or Lemon as he seems to have become known as) my brother's little monster. All three of his boys are on the large side but he's definatly the biggest and no matter how much play time or how closely their diets are monitered, they're still big! My boys on the other hand are on the petite side despite eating huge amounts of food, I'm so jealous.

Paws, the cutest blob of fat in the world or in heaven now ) And Sterling a year ago, before the neutering. I'm sure I have better blob pics somewhere! HAYLEY

WHEW! P&M are in good company! All of your gerbils look big, but they also look very healthy. Nice thick, shiny coats, bright eyes. They're all lovely, and some of the pictures are so cute that I almost can't stand it! Kimsgerbils: The one that's halfway into/ out of the toilet paper tube is PRICELESS. I almost fell off my computer chair when I saw it. Layla is beautiful. Oh, and I agree that the larger ones are somehow calmer and take to humans more easily. Ashgerbil: You're comment about "it's all relaxed muscle" made me laugh. Sometimes I say that Pep is just "fluffy," which is partially true. His coat is extremely thick and I find his hairs here and there. Whitmoregirl: Your Pepper is female, my Pep (Peppermint) is male, but they pretty much look the same! Ah, gerbil genetics... thank goodness their personalities are all different, otherwise they would be boring. Doomgerbiluk: How did you get those photos of Dan, Rombo, and Harlequin? Also, does Harlequin's little ear fold down a bit? Andreas15: Jimmy reminds me of Pep. Is it just me, or are there a lot of chubby agoutis? Mice: Doesn't work to put 'em on a diet, eh? I'm finding that here. I'm beginning to not care so much... they're healthy and they have a healthy lifestyle and they're happy... what more could I do for them! Paws: What happened to Sterling after he got neutered? Did he get bigger or smaller? Ok, now some of my little cicciotti: (small children should cover their eyes; this may be disturbing) FIRST, age 6 months: NEXT, age 2 years. Birthday special occasion, a slice of grape!. FINALLY, something cute And before I forget, I couldn't catch him in this position again if I tried. This is truly the chunker, right here: They've always been pretty big, though: Pep, at five months or so: img.photobucket.com/albums/v21/brokecollegekid/DSCN0443Custom.jpgPep, the most recent photo I have: img.photobucket.com/albums/v21/brokecollegekid/DSCN3818Custom.jpgMax, at five months or so: img.photobucket.com/albums/v21/brokecollegekid/DSCN0446Custom.jpgMax, the most recent photo I have: img.photobucket.com/albums/v21/brokecollegekid/DSCN3824Custom.jpgSO I apologize to the forum owners that this topic has gotten waaaaay off dietary questions.

I shoot hundreds with either my 3 mp compact or the 5mp digital slr (Cannon EOS for those who've seen the ads) Harlequin was severely injured durign declanning. Half the ear is missing and I have no idea how the rest survived. She has loads of white hair in her lumpy tail where scar tissue doesn't produce pigment. She's a lovely fat hand warmer but hates other [female] gerbils. Dan is blind and has been from birth. Bobtail has the gerbil equivalent of spina bifida which results in malformed tails and also apparently causes some internal malformations which means the females cannot give birth naturally. I love my less than perfect gerbils

Aww, less than perfect gerbs are great!! I love seeing everyone else's chunky gerbils, knowing I'm not the only one with mini-blimps makes me feel better, lol. I can see my gerbils now... "Oh no! The hand is coming to take us away from our food pile!!! Waddle faster!!!!! No wait, it's bringing MORE food... YIPEEE!!" hehe... They're so adorable when they look like lil groundhogs or something

(So, clearly we need to set Raven/ Pepper up on a blind double-date with Max/ Pep. ;D) I love digital photography, I have an "old school" Nikon coolpix that goes through batteries like water (thank goodness for rechargables) and has a terrible blue flash (thank goodness for at-home digital retouching!). We should have a gerbil photo art contest or thread. Or just a thread for the funniest gerbil photos (my vote goes to the poor thing hanging out of the toilet paper tube!). Ok 'nuff about photography. Your "less than perfect" gerbils are the ones that stuck out to me as being special. I don't mean that in a condescending way at all, I mean they were the ones I wanted to pick up and hold after looking at your photos. There's something about them --------------- In the interests of not making the moderators mad by turning this into a non-food topic ;D do you feed your pudgies differently from your sleek athletes? Are the chubbers on the Atkins (high protein) diet? Are they on the Ornish (low fat) diet? The Zone diet? The low-sugar diet for diabetics? The non-wheat diet for wheat allergies? I just switched mine to a lower protein diet. Since they're been adults, their diet has been pretty low fat. I also cut out or cut down on "sugary" fruits and vegetables like apples, carrots, grapes, and peas. Now they get leafy greens. (P.S. I'm still interested in photos )
