Idea For Setting Up a Gerbil TankHey everyone! I think a lot people often wonder how they can make their tanks more exciting for their gerbils, yet keep the price down! Well I thought I'd share what I most often do when it's time for cleaning and redoing Mizzy and Moosey's tank. I usually don't do with my fosters as I'm trying to tame them and it's hard to do that with this setup! Supplies:Gerbils' Tank Litter Scissors LOTS of Cardboard! First, what you do before you put any litter in is just fill it with cardboard! Added a couple more things: Some toy ideas! This I got in a six pack at the Family Dollar for a $1! Someone gave me this. It's a little bigger then a TP roll but harder. I cut triangle holes through this cereal box. You'll see why below! More things added! You can see the cereal box there, it has holes going through it so the gerbils and go through easier. (They'll probably chew bigger holes though but that's the point!) Then I sprinkle some of their old bedding around. Then I fill it with new stuff! I bury almost everything! They'll dig and find it eventually! Then I added some hay and more toys! Happy gerbils! When everything is all done. Just make sure your gerbils are able to stand on their hind legs without hitting the top! My girls have a tank topper so it's not as big of an issue for me. Hope this is helpful! EDIT!Another setup. I bought a bag of Eco-bedding to try. I love it! And I think the girls do too. They seemed way more excited then when I have aspen!

I'm sure this will help alot of people!

Looks like gerbil paradise!
I bury cardboard tubes under the bedding, but I hadn't thought about burying cardboard sheets. I'll have to give that a try.

ttlol22 - Thanks! qtoffer - I think it is a gerbil paradise! SilverGerbil - Aww but I'm sure she'd love it! Ha! I just notice in my pictures that all the cardboard looks rather beaten up. I just thought I'd you all know the reason why all that cardboard looks like that is because they've had it before and it wasn't completely shredded!

Great idea! Next time I change their tank I'll have to try that! I have a ton of boxs from Christmas so I can cut them up and use those!

Wow Boz! Thats great! I'm getting a 20gal tank for my boys today, and some new toys and aspen bedding, instead of that yucky sawdust my dad gets. >.> Also, I would like to get a cage topper, but have no room, and what kind of hay is that?

It's pretty simple and easy but so fun! Rikka - Yay! Your getting a 20 gallon! It's just mix grass hay that I give my bunnies. They love to chew it apart! You can make smaller tank toppers. That tank topper used to be smaller. It used to be just the frame of the wood but that didn't last long. Then I added to it!
