That's up to you, really. If there was a lot of fur missing (I'm guessing probably some blood too?) then they might have gotten in a fight, but that doesn't mean your remaining gerbil won't get along with another friend. Is she showing signs of slowing down at that age? If so, you might not want to stress her out by trying to introduce a new gerbil when she might not have all that much more time left, that and not much energy. But if she's still pretty active, like my two year old gerbil, then it might be a good idea to give her some company. Another thing to go off of is whether or not she is noticeably lonely. If she is, then she might not live as long anyways cause she's stressed out and not happy, so in that case it might be a good idea to get her a new friend. So like I said, it's pretty much up to you and your knowledge of your gerbil's needs. So sorry to hear about your gerbil, though!

Scarlet was sitting on top of the food bowl . She was to weak to climb up the steps so we think mindy was trying to make her eat

Hello, sorry to hear about your gerbil. This has just happened to me today. I have 2 sisters about 3 yrs old. A grey one and a black one. The Grey one has got that ear infection thing and falls over alot but gets around her tank no problem. She eats and drinks fine and her fur is shiney. The black one has been fine, never any problems, always looks the picture of health. Today i have come home to find the black one not only dead but with half her face chewed off! I don't know if they fought and the black one died as a result or of the black one just died and the grey did the chewing after? They have play fought all their lives and the grey was definately the dominent one but there have never been any injuries from their fighting.

Boe- I'm sorry to hear about your gerbil, especially that you had to find her in such a state! The truth is that sometimes the remaining gerbil will "clean up" by, sadly, eating the other gerbil. This does not mean your gerbil is a cannibal or vicious or something, but in the wild the dead gerbil would attract predators so in her mind, she has no choice but to "clean up".
Joannep- Two years is sort of the point where an adult gerbil becomes a senior gerbil. From there, its normal to see signs of aging and at some point sickness. Your gerbil is simply at this point, though that doesn't make it any easier I know. As long as Speed's still alive, his brother should be okay. If he dies, then that would when you really need to worry about the remaining gerbil getting depressed. Some gerbils don't, but if he does, you can always get him a new friend. (I would suggest two pups, actually) If you're able, you could take Speed to a vet. Just because he's older doesn't mean his sickness can't be treated, depending on what it is.

I had two male gerbils for over five years.they'd been together all their lives. His brother died yesterday and the one that is still alive is extremely hostile. Chomping on the cage biting viciously even trying to bite us.. He seems angry or maybe he's sick I have no idea what to do.... Any suggestions???

I have two females and they lived together for over a month no problem, then last night midnight was aggressive to Blackie and a few fights broke out, I wish I would of separated them because this morning Blackie is in bad shape her face is bloody and fur missing and her tail is broken in the middle and she's barley breathing and not moving i took her out of the cage but I don't think she's going to make it If she dies is it ok to get a replacement or will midnight do the same to her

If you can get Blackie to a vets they might be able to give her steroids to promote healing and maybe painkillers and antibiotics.
If she dies then you'll want to give Midnight a couple weeks to 'forget' about her before trying her wih another gerbil, just because she fought Blackie does not mean she will definately fight another gerbil. You'll want to do a split cage introduction if you end up getting a new girl, there's plenty of advice on how to do this on the forum if you haven't done one before.

I had 2 gerbils both sisters both brown one was always bigger than the other though but I thought anything of it I've had them ever since they were 5 months and over time the bigger one grew a bit not major but just a bit and I'd feed them once a day with a hand full of food and a chunk of carrot or a treat or two instead of the carrot and in the last couple of days in the bigger ones life when I took her out her belly felt very hard and she was very big I started getting worried and I asked my mom what I should do and she said I should just wait and see what happens and keep an eye on her so I did and one day I came home from school and I found her dead ? what was the cause? Please give me some answers

Hi, I'm so sorry to hear about Iggy. 3 is a good age for a gerbil but it can still be very hard to say goodbye. As for getting another gerbil it is really up to you as you said nothing can replace Iggy but gerbils can give comfort. If you do decide you want more gerbils I would strongly recommend getting 2 (they really like having friends).
