In IM you're giving away you're address and they can reach you whenever. In chat, you can just leave and you're giving them your email address. But yes, I see your point Ritzie.

I agree with ritzie because I remember that I personally found some shady characters in chatrooms... and really that's where a lot of the "creepy" people parents dont want you to talk to hang out online at... that's why they have undercover police in certain chat rooms to lure them out. I personally would rather IM than use chat room... plus after my chatroom experience I have two IM screen names, one for personal for people I do know and then another for the occasional chat with someone I dont.

I just have one IM, and everybody has access to reach me on it, but I have a private email address that's totally different, so i can have important things in it- like whatever, none of which is forum related! lol. We'll use this forum for instance... if you like somebody have had chatted in PM, or in threads, you can pass along your IM. i know that I'd rather my kid (which, again, i don't have one- lol) meet somebody pbulically and then IM later on. i think there's more annonymissity in a chat room, or at least the "though" of it, and really, there isn't. Chatrooms get bad wraps for a reason. You can always block IM too. Any good hacker can figure out the generals of where you're at even in a chatroom. Plus- in my MSN IM, I can have more than one person in a window, so it's like a chat room!

What if we were to pick a time to all go on and chat? Maybe pick a weekly or bi-weekly date, and change the time every week, as timezones would make it tough to find a time that works for everyone. idk, just a suggestion.

We've tried. i know over on Ed's forum they do something similar, and it seems to work out. I'm not sure how many members participate, but I remember a while back somebody tried to start a weekly/monthly chat, and it didn't work out. You are welcome to start a new thread to "announce" it if you'd like. You could ask members what times would work best for them, and give it another go. I might even sticky it for you I personally won't attend too often, if at all, simply because Java script and my computer aren't very good friends. Java script is what the chat room runs on. You have to have Java downloaded before the chat will work.

Maybe I will do that... would it be best to do it in the announcements board, or another board?

Hehe! I can't use the chat either! It comes up with a message saying im missing something off my browser -sigh- Tis what i get for trial testing Windows 7 eh?! x Edit: In IM you're giving away you're address and they can reach you whenever. In chat, you can just leave and you're giving them your email address. But yes, I see your point Ritzie. What do you mean your giving away your address on IM? No where unless you put it on your profile, or give it out does it show your address or your IP address for that matter !
