I saw a pair in Chicago last year. A rodent rescuer I know pulled them out of a high-kill shelter in the inner city, of all places. Your best bet is to go to local rodent shows and swap meets and talk to people, maybe someone is breeding a few in your area. They're cute little things!

Hey this is going to sound 'really, really, really' stupid but is a fat tailed gerbil similar or the same as a Duprasi? There are fat tailed gerbils at a reptile centre called the Japenese Koi Company for £5.

Thanks - I read about them and they store fat in their tails, then use it as a reserve when food gets low. Does anyone know how hungry they get before they use the fat? How much fat they can store?
They're also meant to be very tame!

Aww I love him! I really wish I was allowed another gerbil Apparently 9 gerbils, 8 rabbits, 5 hamsters and 3 chickens is enough. Question: Is £5 for a gerbil - fat tailed or mongolian - a good deal? The shop doesn't have strict breeders, and anyone can donate an animal. They might not be 'as' healthy so... Can they live on their own? There were a few fat-tailed ones on their own. Are they as sociable as mongolians?

Are they as sociable as mongolians? Alot of people recommend that you keep them on their own. £5 is a bargin for a fat tailed gerbil, they are usually nearer the £20 mark

Ok - Thank you! Not allowed one at the moment but it is a nice possibility for the future.
Thanks Becky.
