Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I did a search and didn't find an answer, so...
Where can lab blocks be purchased? I looked around the last time I was at the pet store, but I didn't find any... Can someone tell me where I might be able to get them?

Right, big pet shops. I'm in the US, and PetCo and PetSmart sell them. I got some at Walmart too, but I've never seen them for Hamsters/gerbils. All the packaging I see is for mice and rats. I recently added mouse/rat blocks to my gerbil mix. They seem to like it too, because they eat it!

Oooh, I've not heard of lab blocks either! Not seen them here in the UK - what is the purpose of them if your gerbils are fed on a complete mix anyway?

no, it's the "perfect" diet. It's all mixed and ground up so that every bite is "perfectly nutricious" I have small blocks mixed into my food, but I don't serve it soley. I agree that it looks boring... which is why I'll only feed it if I have a picky eater, or if it's mixed in with other stuff. I do however, like Kaytee Exact. It's little kibbles, but it's basically just the same as lab blocks, only colorful and smells good! My babies LOVE kaytee exact when they're weaning. They pick it out before any of the seeds.

lol... nope. just a block of "complete" food. And not all animals will eat all of their food, even if it's a good mix. If you have a look at the feed board, you'll notice people saying their gerbil doesn't eat certian things. All sepcies actually. Eric's mom cockatiel- doesn't like the sunny seeds in his mix... but he likes the safflower ones... so she gets a mix that has no sunnies, and then she adds safflower seeds to it.

Mine won't eat the rabbit pellets but she will eat some types of the lab blacks. I have been buying a certain kind from the bulk bins that she likes but the last time I went to the store all the hamsters were sick so I was afraid to buy bulk.

The Bulk Bins almost always carry mites, Salmonella, e. Coli, or even Tyzzer's. It's not a good idea to buy from them. The gerbils at Petco are fed nothing but lab blocks.. I notice that their poops and tails are scrawny and the coats are oily. The gerbils I've purchased there always perk up after a week or so on Gerri Gerbil.
