Hey all, I am a little concerned about my gerbils. Only got them a week ago and up until now they have been really lively running around the cage and seemed to have settled in really well. I have used a lot of bedding and they have dug tunnels and can now go out of sight. My worry is this, since last night they havent come to the surface at all, and I only see them very occasionaly at the side of the cage. The only thing I could think of is the female has had pups. There was a strong chance that she was pregnant when I got her. Would this be normal behaviour not to come out much if she has had pups or do you think there is some other reason. Hope she hasnt had pups down there, just can't see them.

The female will stay the first days a lot with her pups for nursing and keeping them warm! However the other gerbils will go on as usually normally! Can you not open the place where they are in? And take a look? Than you know for sure.
And gerbils that are not tame yet will also sometimes hide in a burrow or something else when we are around!
