Well that's very nice, gerbilmama. I must say that I love mine too. To say that I love them more than anything would taste a lie because I have many more pets and family, but they are almost at the top of this list, if you know what I mean.

I'm not a breeder. I have two gerbils and five dogs. We had two dogs but we had an accidental litter.

Very good collie101. I myself am thinking about getting two more, and possibly breeding in the near future.

Saying what our gerbils habits, annoying or otherwise are, could help to get the total to 12,000, but didn't 10,000 fail?
Anyway, I'll start with my gerbils habits: Storm will run away from me, but once caught, she will happily stay in my hand - chewing cardboard in my hand is her favourite hobby!
Ebony's habits are more annoying. Occasionally, she will practice jumping (I wonder if that's how she got over the divider), and will try her best to demolish the divider - fortunately, she can't.
Sandy's habits have got to be the worst though (and Ebony copies some of them!):
The worst one is moving the terracotta plantpot around that no gerbil should have the strength to! Cos she has somehow managed to have it facing upwards instead of on the floor where I put it. I put it back each time though, because it is downright dangerous in that position, there is nothing but tunnels to keep it from falling on her!
There's also the "trapeze" act she does to try and nearly succeed to get over the divider (the only reason she doesn't succeed is because I catch her in the act!).
then there's the time she and Dusky planned to escape the first cage I bought them 9it wasn't really suitable): the door was above the cage, and loose, so they piled up a few toys, and I caught them climbing up, just about to push the door open!

Strang gerbils, david. Good luck with them! Thanks. I'm not sure Sandy is actually lifting the plantpot (though she can push it around the tank - she used to like to position it right next to the glass, so every move would cause a banging noise), I think she possibly digs tunnels underneath it and around it until it's in the position she wants, so she may not be that strong, but she is the strongest gerbil I've known! She should have got weaker as she got older, not the other way around! I may buy a cheap video camera and record her actions, cos some of the stuff she does is hard for me to believe, yet alone anyone else! Sandy was one of my first gerbils (I got her along with her now deceased slightly younger sister Dusky, who sandy loved), she even tried to revive dusky by licking her all over. when that didn't work, she slept next to her, I hated taking her body out of the cage because sandy was clearly upset, but it had to be done. I think sandy got strong cos her and Dusky would push the enamel food bowl off the second floor of the gerbilarium (it's easier to get the sunflower seeds that way!), all the time. Sandy carried on the tradition, and she started doing it with over things too.
