Can you see her belly moving? As in the babies making moves obviously under her skin? I guess she may be due or very close... I hope it all goes well! Good luck Lone Stars

HAHA. FUNNY STORY. I walked into my room to check on Penelope and Sebastian, and I saw the funniest/cutest thing... First of all... I walked in, and Sebastian's head was resting delicately on Penelope's baby bump, the cutest thing!! i watched em for awhile, and then turned to put some clothes away, and when I came back, they were both sleeping side by side on their backs with their feet in the air. I had the biggest laugh! haha and then I watched Penelope's tummy move with the babies inside, and I noticed Sebastian twitching his foot... I watched him for a while, and noticed his little paws were moving and making grabbing motions and his mouth was moving. I guess I'm not the only one dreaming of gerbil babies!! hehe I had never seen a gerbil "dreaming" before.. So. funny. Sebastian is such a sweet heart. <3

They are here!!! AAAAH! good guessin' cheekygerbils! I woke up at 6 this morning to squeaking (normally I sleep with two ginormous fans on either side of me, but I turned those down so I could hear the squeaking) and I lept out of bed. Sure enough, Penelope stepped aside as if to say "Oh that squeaking? That was this little guy!" and lo and behold, a beautiful little pink thing. :') i went and woke my parents up, who were delighted (I think they've been more excited than I've been! Funny how gerbils grow on people ) and then they went back to bed, I turned off the lights and watched. Soon there were 2... Then 3, and next thing I know- 4! I thought she might be done, but then came a little straggler at about 7:20 something so that makes 5, count em, FIVE beautiful pups. Sebastian doesn't quite know what to think. The little brat slept through most of it. Then he wanted to mate. Penelope wouldn't have that yet. So he spent the rest of the time building himself a huge fluffy nest while Penelope finished her birthing. Now, Sebastian is sulking in the corner (in his fluffy throne) while Penelope sleeps with the babies. :') It's so sweet. And I'm so happy. I hope they all make it!! Pictures VERY soon!!

Okay... a little concerned. They're going crazy. (Sebastian and Penelope). They're scratching and flikcking pups everywhere... When do they settle down? Can I do anything to help them calm down? Right now it's quiet in there and dark... Before the lights were on and some music was playing (very softly though).. I'm just concerned cause I feel like she should be staying with them almost constantly, but as of right now, she has no interest, she'd rather scratch at the tank... Is it because they're new parents?

mine always do this to and it seams like new parents do this more offten and also the mother will move the nest a bit. you can put a towel over the cage to give them privacy. they should calm down soon.. and congrats!!

How wonderful Blocketh!!!! Yes i have read lots of times they dig and babies fly. Am sure the pups are fed, but now Penelope needs 'me time', after all giving birth to 5 pups is pretty draining I would just let them be a happy Gerbil family, the instinct will kick In. Just sit there, watch them and enjoy the entire squeaking orchestra!

Congrats on the new pups! yea its normal for them to kick the babies around. The babies are made to withstand that.

Yay! Babies! How fun! It would be wonderful if you could give ongoing photo updates over the next month or two. I'd be excited to see pics, especially after they start growing hair and you can see what colors they are.

Congratulations 5 healthy pups, well done to Penelope. You made me laugh at Seb sitting in his fluffy throne! I hope they have calmed down now and you can relax and enjoy the experience

Thank you everyone, so much! I really appreciate it! All are doing well, as far as I can tell. Penelope is walking around with a pup in her mouth like she doesn't know what to do with it.... lol I'm not sure what to think of that, and that's slightly concerning as well. I'm afraid she's hurtin the poor little dear! But, I'm sure she's not... I just freak out easily, tis all... I'll be glad when they get a bit older and aren't so fragile looking and weak... They're giving me anxiety attacks! haha I had to leave for a bit, but they seem to be *somewhat* calmer now as far as I can tell. I just want to know that they're being fed.. I checked their bellies, I do see white in them, but it's not right in the center where I've seen it in pics nor is it that big. Hmm..
