Hi sorry I didn't even notice anyone had replied to this thread recently! Send me a PM next time as I often don't have time to check every board everyday No, I'm afraid you can't put it in the tank, the gerbils have to be supervised at all times as a) they could chew the plastic or b) chew the newspaper (which often uses toxic ink). Just keep it for playtime only Good luck with it! I hope it turns out well and post some pics of it when you're done

ok, thanks, I already started, and I think it will be beautiful, the only thing I have to do next is the sand ;D
but what I still don't get, is that you can't put it in the tank. because when they chew oon things, they don't really EAT it, they rip it into pieces..
but the one I'm making right now is definatly for outside the tank, but I was planning to make another one for in it...

Best thing to do is, put it in a spare tank or, whatever you use when cleaning out your Gerbils then, they will be supervised and, only for a short time but, even then they will chew it, it can't be helped, it's what they do best Demolition.

The ink rubs off on their teeth, which could poison them.

The tape is fine. Duct tape and clear tape are the only ones that shouldn't be used. Can you use that sort of papery tape in their tanks with them unsupervised? Or should it be used only under supervision, You know, to hold tubes in boxes and things for them... it would make life so much easier!

You mean masking tape? Hmmm.... Moo had a nasty experience with masking tape - got it stuck on her fur and went wild trying to get it off - oh, and she bit me in the process of trying to get it off her Your decision, but I wouldn't use any sort of tape near my girls again! Caroline

I am in the process of making my own sand playground..actually I'm making 2! I'm currently making a sand playground in my extra tank so they can play when it is either raining or cold outside, and I'm going to make another one that I can take outside when I put the boys in their playpen in the front yard. So far I'm just waiting to buy flower so I can make the paste and I just ordered 4 boxes of Chinchilla sand earlier that should arrive in a few days. I'll put pictures up when I have them both done!

Hi
Are these not very difficult to keep clean? I like the idea of them and wanted to make one up but am concerned about it getting dirty inside where i can't clean it properly.

This is really cool and I'm thinking of doing it! But, how do you.. 1}Make sure the gerbils don't shew on the places that aren't sand (like the plastic water bottle window)? 2]Clean it? xD
Sorry, I'm going to be asking a lot of questions before I get my gerbils.. I don't want to do something wrong!

I don't know if anybody thought of this yet. If it is a pain to clean the playpens, would it not be easier from the start by building something where the bottom comes off, such as like on hinges or something, rather than resorting to cutting holes in the place?

When there is the newspaper in little cylandar shapes between the "houses" would it be okay to put tunnels made of something like PVC pipe so they can go between houses without coming out?
