Yes, they can, but just a small amount. Mine don't really like it though.

My gerbils like it occasionally, but they really prefer cheerios or almonds.

My gerbils Candy and Coco don't like it eather. But Candy loves carrorts choped in a certin way. Coco just dose not like veggies at all.

in small amounts yes. but too much may give them diarrhea so its better as a once in while treat.

Most vegetables are good for them in small amounts so they don't consume to much water. Same with fruits. Nuts and seeds are ok because they don't have so much water in them. I give my gerbils 1 fresh fruit or vegetable every day, just introduce stuff gradually and not in large quantities and they will b fine.

I don't think it should be used as a replacement for water- especially since there's no guarantee that they'll eat it and if they do too much isn't good for them.
