My only thing would be to put them in a split tank so that he can still see them, but as you have said you are unable to do that. Sorry I can't be of more help, glad he is doing well so far though.

manuka honey is great for wounds, it especive but well worth it.
Sadly without being able to split cage you may not get them back together, gerbils have short memories and if there apart for more the 72 odd hours they forget each other and will fight.
Glad your gerbils doing well, i delt with many of birds that have cat attact and 98% have died fo toxic shock

I'm pleased to hear that Nikolai is doing well and that he's healing nicely. You have done a brilliant job caring for him. I hope you are able to create a split cage for him and his brothers. It doesn't have to be expensive. You can use a large plastic storage bin/box. There are a few threads on her discussing how to make one.

so the dead skin has finally come off, revealing a lot of gunge underneath, pink skin, a bit of a dip, a swollen leg and a worrying lump here's a couple of pics so you can see sorry for the crap quality and large image size the size of the dead skin you can see how far down it goes here there is the lump I'm worried about and that's how high the area affected was so any advice?

Is this where the skin split or is this still the wound from the cat bite? Do you still have the pictures from when it first split, would be good to look at to compare. I would ask the vet for more antibiotics and some saline solution to wash the would out with. Is he still eating and drinking okay? What sort of set up is he in at the moment. I would have though for the time being something small to stop him from moving too much would be a good idea. How is he in himself?
Edit to add: And try not to handle him too much, ideally to move him use a spacious glass jar or mug, put him onto a towel or kitchen roll to wash out his wounds. As for his meds would he not take a drop of meta-cam on some food? Such as a small piece of apple, it is not really designed to be given without food anyway, but it tastes rather nasty so you may still have to force it down him. Keep us updated.

the split was on the far right (bottom picture) i think the lump is near to where the cat bit him, not too sure though. and I have hibiscrub, but it's not an open wound anymore, its all new skin with that yellow gunk stuff on top, which i managed to get a bit off with a gentle rub from cotton buds He seemed ok until today when he just looked down an miserable, but he eats and drinks fine, proof is the amount of poo i end up with when i clean him, and im still giving him metacam which he takes via syringe, he also doesnt seem to like using his water bottle, so every now an then i give him water via syringe (which he really doesnt mind). His area of the cage is small, and i made sure it was all level so he doesnt have to jump up (in case he caught the skin) But after i managed to get the skin off he seemed to go into shock a bit so ive got him in front of an electric fire (which i keep checking so he doesnt overheat)
any ideas as to why his left front leg has swollen too?

If it has just recently become swollen then I would say infection, which needs some antibiotics asap. Hope he is feeling a bit better and brighter soon.

Oh that looks horrible! Poor baby! Did it get bigger since the initial wound? It's usually cats' claws that do the initial damage... After all this time he better get through this, he's done so well so far. What kind of bedding is he on atm? I would def ask vet about antibiotics for the leg. How long has he been off them?

thats actually healed haha, and I've only noticed the lump now that the dead skin has come off, so i don't think it was from the bite wound, and he has sawdust, but in his bed area there's lots of tissue to make it comfy, he's not showing any signs of that porypin? the red mucus, and I've just seem him eat, and he's had a drink off me, but i think he is a bit depressed anyway at being separated from his brothers. and im gonna try an get him booked in at the vets on monday (unfortunately im having to move so im strapped for time D:) and he's been off his antibiotics two weeks next wednesday.

aw,poor guy, that is good you are getting the lump checked out. Hope your move goes okay,i know how that is a a crazy time as I've moved many times over the years and with gerbils. Just see how he is doing and wait to see what the vet says on Monday. Good wishes for Nickolai.
Take care,
Tammy

I know it's hard when they seem depressed by having to be alone for a while, but it is in his best interest, and him getting better is what's most important before putting him back with some company. I would get him to the vets asap to have the lump looked at and to check that it is healing ok. What a poor baby

the lump seems to have shrunken, but he's been chewing at his arm and making it bleed, and he seems to have really dry scabby skin where the dead skin fell off and it's spread to his belly. Finally moved house, so im letting him get settled then tomorrow evening im gonna give him a thorough wash and see how he goes. now looking for a fish tank which i can turn into a split cage
