Informing that a certain make of 'rodent-safe' wooden nesting houses were unsafe because they actually use pins, and do not state it.
And ever since, I have always been a bit worried about the wooden nesting box my gerbils have. It isn't like the one above, but still, I checked the house every couple of days. And today, this is what I found:
Normal image of the front:
The whole my gerbils gave chewed in the back corner of the house after having it for approx' 3 months:
I doubt they won't already know that pins are in their product.. :/ I will indeed be contacting them anyway though. I wanted to raise awareness on here especially, and am just glad I caught it early on!..

My gerbil has a wooden house (different from yours, but yeah) and she decided that one needed a back door as well and chewed an escape route. And yeah, she exposed a few nails as she worked at it, but I was able to easily pull them out using a hammer. Are you able to remove the pins using a pair of needle-nosed pliers or something?
That is not good! Gerbils can chew/gnaw through things so quick can't they?! I haven't thrown mine away yet, it is sitting on the shelf, but I don't know what to do with it yet :/ If I keep it after pulling the pins out, chances are they will uncover more! -;-
No worries, that's why I posted it! I'm glad it has potentially saved a few more gerbils' lives! I know, the packaging when I bought it said it had 'safe glue', but nothing about nails.
you have to be soo careful even things that say safe for gerbils. I stick to terra cotta pots and coconuts for Tias' homes. I bought two terra cotta pots at a dollar store once and the paint they used came off on my gerbil, was worried it was dried blood,so even watch when you buy these, and buy at plant stores or Michaels. I don't even buy gerbil treats at pet stores, stick to pumpkin seeds, sunnies, oats and pinenuts to save additives in treats.

I decided to take my girl's house out of the dustbin.
I'm going to take it back to the store where i bought it, to let them know how dangerous these houses are to our pets. In the hope they do something about it, or label them properly, saying pins are in them.Because if i would have known i would never of bought it.
