I don't think it is stressful on the mom to be pregnant and nursing young pups. I meant more like all-the-time doing this. Litter after litter. And it also depends so much of gerbil. We here have "rules" and it's 3 litters/gerbil which 2 can be made in row but then mom needs some relax and this have worked.

I do plan on separating pa and babies in about 2 weeks now.... thanks yall for all the info... in a few more weeks... i plan on having about 6-7 more aquariums with a few more gerbils... and eventually (NOT ANYTIME SOON) breeding babies (NOT TOGETHER) and maybe breeding auntie (she's been such a good help with the other babies) (Only gonna continue breeding if i can find good homes for them though... I really don't like the idea of giving them to pet shops)

Do not breed the aunt if she's over 1 year old. A litter could kill her.

I would not breed purposely until 6-7 months. That leaves time for the mom to develop into a full adult, and lessens the chance of complications from the birth.

By three months she is an adult. Waiting longer will increase the time you need to split cage with a male. It is up to you.

auntie and daddy... were BOTH supposed to be girls when i got them.... but... daddy... wasn't showing yet lol... and mommy was already pregnant... and then right before she had her first litter.. i found out semi was a boy... but... couldn't bear to part with him and they all seemed to have bonded... and then next thing i know she's pregnant again.... and she's still nursing (i was told to keep papa with her b/c he'll help raise babies) and she's pregnant again lol... i do plan on separating them before she gives birth to this litter, though...

So you got them all together? If so, do not breed any of the babies, as they are heavily inbred.

mama and papa aren't inbred... auntie and daddy are bro and sis... but i thought they were both girls at first... but she's not been pregnant at all... i got them at the same time... but they (momma and papa) came from different litters... and I'm separating babies before they're able to have babies of their own... (momma's 1st litter didn't make it... she wouldn't nurse them... and i fed them every hour... they made it 4 days)... it's her second litter that she's with right now... and they're still nursing...
Edit* - I'm tired... i can't make sense of my own post lol

How can you tell? Sorry to be so.. interrogative. XD Ruki was a different size from her sisters, and Jenova had sisters a whole bunch of colors{She's spotted burmese, her sisters were black, lilac, and agouti}. I've had petshops lie to me so that I would buy a pregnant gerbil from them. They SWORE to me that Angel and the boy in the tank with her were not related.. but one of the two boys born had a kinked tail and a missing eye.
So I just wouldn't risk it with these critters{especially since they came from pet store stock, which often carries genetic deformities}, and just keep the pups as pets.
