How are you feeling today? I'm glad that Evie isn't going to miss Pepper. It's a shame when gerbils don't get along together, but at least she's happy on her own. Our original 3 girls didn't get on well either and we could never get the back together after they fought but they lived happy lives in permanent split tanks.
After we lost the first of our gerbils I worried so much about the rest of them. I'd look at them and wonder if their breathing was ok. It got so I couldn't tell what normal gerbil breathing was supposed to look like. I had to stop myself doing it though as I was getting far to anxious. I decided if I couldn't really tell if there was anything wrong with them then they really were ok.

Doing okay. I keep reminding myself that this is better, that she's not suffering, that she isn't just wasting away now. I haven't cried since my fiance got home (he made a comment that had I took the wrong way which had the water works going again), but it was a rough night for sleeping (about 3-4 hours at most).
I definitely feel the same about checking the other gerbils though. I keep checking on Evie, making sure she's breathing okay and staying active. I'm trying not to though, because I'll drive myself crazy.

It will get easier. I still miss my girls and it's 8 months since Squeaky died. But they were very special so I will always miss them.
When Homer died last week I was really upset and I still get a little tearful when I think about him but it was easier for the fact that he didn't suffer. We knew he had a heart problem and his breathing was deteriorating but it didn't get too bad and he still wanted to play out the day before he died. He passed away peacefully in his sleep so he couldn't have had a better end to his life. Three of my 4 girls were PTS which was really hard but we were glad we were able to help them. Sprocket was the only one that passed away in her own, after a seizure.
I have lots of photos of them and some videos to and that has really helped.

aww I'm sorry to hear about them. This is the part of pet owning that I absolutely hate, the reality that some day they'll die and we cannot stop that. It's easy to think they'll just live forever. Thank you all for your support in this, I really needed it from other owners who understand how I feel right now. <3

I didn't have any pets for 15 years after I left home because I knew how upset I'd be when they died. I changed my mine over and over before we actually got our first gerbils. I hoped that all of the would live to be 4 but that didn't happen. Squeaky was only 2 years 3 months and Sprocket got to be oldest at 2 years 9 months. It was a big shock when they all developed age related problems around 2 years old. But I wouldn't have been so upset at losing them if they hadn't meant so much to me, and they were wonderful additions to my life.
Homer was 3yrs 4 months. We gave him and Bart a home when they were 3 years old. It is nice to have some gerbils that have got a bit older. Bart is still racing around and not showing his age at all.

So sorry about Pepper. Just been told Theo needs to be put down, he's too ill for the operation and was even at the start. Really upset. I have the same problem with the "glued eyes" however it's only one.

I guess an up side is that at least Theo can go peacefully Although I know it's hard to think of that as a positive.

The good news is he's actually improving, so were going to see how he is over the weekend. His nose was bleeding this morning but now he's out of the sofa with his brothers! The only problem I have with him though is that he is extremely skinny, and you can see his spine when he leans over. I gave him cheese (it was strong, though we're getting some mild tomorrow) and I'm making some mushy food for him in case it's his teeth. If Theo does pass, though, I'll tell him to say hi to Pepper

Unfortunately she was very VERY sick. She lived alone so being pregnant was never a possibility. As well, she was quite small; I could feel her hip bones etc, while Evie was twice her size and plump. I assume the original post was all that was read, but she died a little over 24 hours after seeing a vet. She couldn't breathe, was laying on me, and started having a seizure before I put her in her cage where she slammed against all the glass before landing on her back and dying. It was traumatic and utterly heartbreaking but I'm slowly getting over it.

Aww I am so so happy to hear that about Theo! give him lots of cheese, bread, carrots, and fruits from us I hope he continues to improve! And if he should go, if he should cross over to that cardboard-filled meadow in the sky, Pepper will most definitely want his friendship so she can steal the pumpkin seeds from his portion of food lol

I'll try the bread now! Haha, I've never actually fed him pumpkin seeds before. He looks sunflower seeds + peanuts though!

I am very sad to say that Theo has joined Pepper up on the Rainbow Bridge, due to him refusing to eat + drink for days. I gave him lots of sunflower seeds so hopefully he can share them with Pepper.

aww I'm so sorry to read this (and so late!). Poor little theo How are the other gerbils handling it? Unfortunately, and I know this is Pepper's thread but, I think Evie might be heading down the same path. Luckily I have the baytril still on hand so I'm hoping I won't have to mourn two losses.

I'm really sorry to hear that Evie isn't feeling well now. I hope the baytril helps if she needs it xx
