My girls names are Amy and leela from futurama. I love futurama and the names fit their personalities. It actually took me 3 days to decide on their names.

Shimano and SRAM.. I'm a bit of a geek Mountain Biker, so the names come from that sport

I haven't even got my gerbils yet and I know what they're going to be called.. They're going to be called Sips and Sjin (pronounced s-gin), which probably doesn't make sense to most of you. They're two chaps who make video game "Let's Play" style videos, they're part of a bigger group called the Yogscast, and I am a ridiculously huge fan. I've known for ages now that the next two pets I got would get those names, and I even managed to ask Sjin what I should call any more gerbils in case I get more than two and he said, "Guy and Aloysius" which is a reference to one of their Minecraft gameplay series.
....*Geek*
I'm really looking forward to seeing which gerbil shall be named which, based on looks and personality.

All of my pets, save for one who was named when we got him, are named after characters. So when I got my two males I wanted them to have names that went together and picked Atlas and P-body from the Portal game.

Kind of an old thread but I thought I'd share anyways. Alvin Simon and Theodore were obviously named after the chipmunks. I chose the names because of how well they got along. Alvin got his name because he seemed to be the leader of the clan (I've since learned that Simon is actually dominant), he's also very playful. Simon because he's sort of the brains of them all (always the one building burrows, nests, and he figured out the wheel much faster than the others). Theodore because he'd eat anything and everything. He always ate the peas, milo seeds, and ugly brown pellets that any other gerbil would avoid. He was also the most social of them. He loved hanging out in my bed with me during the day, and was always waiting by the bars of the cage for me to come pick him up and cuddle him (the best a human can cuddle an 80 gram gerbil). It took me about two weeks to name them because I had to see their personalities first. They reminded me so much of the chipmunks that I just had to choose those names

Smoke was named due to his colouring, being a Burmese, it was easy. But choosing Cinder's name was more difficult as I wanted something that would go with Smoke...but as I already had Ash from a previous gerbil, he wasn't an Ember or anything...then my friend's son had been watching Cinderella and kept on 'singing' "Cinder, Cinder, Cinderella" (he is only 9 lol) it suddenly struck me that Cinder is another word for Ash and the name fitted him...so it stuck lol. So basically Smoke was named by me and Cinder was named by my friend's son lol xx

I took about a week to name my 3 boys after I got them home as well! It became quite a hot topic, because I was living in a student house with a 4 other people at the time, who all instantly fell in love with these little rodents and had their own strong opinions on names! My guys were pet store pups who were about 10 weeks old when I brought them home. The whole litter were a gaggle of creamy varieties apart from one big siamese and on little black spotted. So after much debate, first to be named was Pip. He's the black spotted and he was the runt of his litter by far - really tiny! He used to be so super light to hold before he grew up a bit, and he was really shy and gentle too. An angel to handle from the start. So he's a pipsqueak! Olly on the other hand, who is sort of cream/golden, was a real handful! He had bags of energy and even with lots of patient handling was prone to wild, unpredictable manouvres like backflipping off my knee a good meter into the room and getting loose on the floor - keeping us quite literally on our toes! Olly just seemed like a good feisty name. He's still a bit of a nutter, but finally is a real doll for being handled. Bo the siamese is a big chubby boss man. His name though came from when my housemates and I were so exasperated with speculating names that someone shouted "Mr Bojangles!" as a joke. We all laughed, and actually it kind of stuck. Bo for short It's a nice nod to the Sammy Davis Jr rendition I love and makes me think of their scurrying antics too - "And jumped so high, clicked his heels"... "Then he lightly touched down" But the bigger reference of course is the mouse from Green Mile!

it didn't take me long to name my first two girls which were Jester (Jess) and Giggle x I named Giggle giggle because the moment i put her in her new home she started chirping, and it sounded like she was laughing, but Giggle fitted better XD I named Jess Jester because she was full of mischief, and the moment i put her in the tank she dug straight down throwing bedding EVERYWHERE!! When she popped her head up to see how much of a mess she made she looked really smug and reminded me of a court Jester when i saw her little white paws :3 xx The two most recent gerbils i have are called Ökami (wolf in Japanese) and Nezumi (rat in Japenese) I have always adored the Japanese so i thought their names should be in Japanese! x Ökami looks like a little grey wolf, and she is incredibly brave considering she's the runt of the lot <3 x Nezumi took me longer to think of, but then i noticed the length of her tail and the fact she looked like mischief, but all she wants to do is sleep XD x Mum also thought she looked like a squirrel, but rat was soooo much easier to say XD xx

My four boys I have now came from my last litter in 2011. The first two were immediately named as soon as I identified their colors. Mark/Marky (Sp. Siamese) is named after a character I have, and so is Spat (Sp. Dove). After I re-homed all but two of their siblings, a Pink Eyed White and Sp. Black, I later decided to name them and keep the four brothers. The PEW was named Ghost (Ghosty is a nickname) since he's pure white like one Now you may think I'm a little cooky or possibly creative with the Sp. Black one XD I named him Bones, for his belly resembles a skeleton pattern due to his white spotting. I call him Bones-y like Ghosty.

I named my boys Doc and Pluto! Doc: I named Doc after a childhood favorite of mine. "Doc Gerbil" from Courage the Cowardly Dog. Pluto: I was actually planning to name Pluto after his color! I changed my mind when I kept coming up with names, and they didn't seem to fit. So I named him Pluto after the god of the underworld(lol). Actually, in a way, he is named somewhat after his color; He reminds me of space, because he was so dark and his paws are white(like stars), so Pluto comes from the planet Pluto(RIP), also. I think their names are fitting, and I wouldn't want anything else.
