My gerbils always seem to be active at the same time, being 3:00, 5:00, 7:00, and 9:00 PM. They seem to come out at the times listed before and go away after 1/2 - 1 Hour. I don't know about their night or afternoon times as I am either out of the house or sleeping. I'm just curious as to if this is natural?

My gerbils do the same thing. . . sort of. They have certain times they like to be awake and like to be asleep and then they'll change their minds and be awake at different times of the day. I think its normal.

Gerbils can learn to be awake when you, their owner, are about and are available to dispense treats and playtime.

My gerbils definitely learned when I'd be around to play with them and give them treats. Bart knew I'd be into see him after I'd finished work in the evenings and before I'd go in the room I'd hear him running up and down his ramps and platforms (they rattled quite a bit) and every time I went in the room he'd be sitting by the doors waiting to be let out.
I work in the same room as Sunshine and Moonbeam so they don't have a regular schedule. They know that whatever time they wake up during the day I'll most likely be there. Every evening around 9 or 10 pm they start sitting on their platform and looking at me to tell me they are ready for playtime too.
