Hi, everyone my gerbils always like to build amazing structures and tunnels. I'm sure yours do too. When we try and get them out of the cage they always pop down one of their tunnels and back out of another. It's a bit like gerbil 'whack a mole'. But the thing is my mum always knocks their amazing buildings down when she does it and i don't because no matter how long I wait i don't want to feel like a vandal! Please tell me about your stories of tunnels and gerbils.

My girls have never actually made tunnel networks, but Peanut, Minty, and Pixel used to pile all the bedding on one side of the tank and make a little tunnel leading down into a nest. It was so cute watching them pop their heads out covered in bedding. But of course having all the bedding piled up on one side led to an escape or two since Peanut chewed through the lid. Crazy gerbil. Sounds like your gerbils are quite the artists and architects though, enjoy them!

My two boys love digging tunnels with multiple entrances, so most of the time I have no idea where they lead to or where they are! Recently though they managed to dig a tunnel right along the edge of the tank so I got a great view of their secret activities.

We've trained ours so that they know they'll get a treat whenever someone takes the tank top off. I can just put my hand in palm up with a treat on it and they'll climb right into my hand so I can lift them out. This way we never have to dig for them! (We don't try to take them out if they're sleeping)
