A few weeks ago when I got my male gerbil, he brought mites with him. It was really bad, they were constantly scratching. So every few days I'd spray them with the mite spray, although they would still be scratching every now and then.
Then about a week ago I finally found a vet that would sell me some Ivermectin(sp?). But it's going to cost like $50.
The thing is,t hey're not scratching much anymore. But I haven't sprayed them or bleached anything in about 2 weeks now. They do still scratch, but it's not constant.. Like yesterday, I had them out for a couple hours an I only noticed them each scratch once.
So should I just get the Ivermectin and give it to them to be on the safe side? THey ARE still scratching every now and then. Or should I wait and see what happens? It has gotten cold again, maybe that's why they're not as bad? I'm guessing when it gets warm again they're only going to get worse..=/
Plus if my girl is pregnant, can it be used on a pregnant gerbil? The vet says its safe, and Ivermectin is usually used on dogs and it's safe for pregnant dogs. Then I'm also worried about pups coming and getting infested with mites. So I guess I should get some. I guess I kind of hope they went away on their own but then I kind of think thats impossible. What do you think I should I do?

I know their are also cheaper medicins for mites on rodents! Here in the Netherlands those are also available in the larger pet shops. They are for birds and/or rodents! Maybe you can find those in the US or somewhere else too. I don't know any brand or price by head, right now! And I'm not sure if they're safe for pregnant gerbils (it should be stated in the description). But you can chech their fur, for mites! I recommend to clean the cage (e.g. with boiled water or chlorine). So if they keep scratching (due to mites) and you cannot find and other safe and cheaper medicin, then I think your only option is to purchase the Ivermectin!

Can't really get Ivermectin anywhere else around here. THey sell it in feed stores for horses and cattle, but none around where I live. Plus I'd have to dilute it myself which I'd rather have the vet do even if it does cost a bit more. So you don't think they went away on their own either then? lol Ugh. I'm going to end up spending like $200 this week just on my animals

Normally they won't leave by themselves, unfortunatelly! Sometimes they can even come back after treatment, because someone forgot to clean the cage itself and the items in it! But are they gone? Because you write about them in the past! If they're gone, I will be wrong I think!
