Some gerbils don't understadn what a sand bath is for, but they usually learn in time. Specially seeing how much there tank mate enjoys it. Glad to see they had alot of fun with it. What kind of sand did you end up useing?

well, i let my girls have a sand bath everyday! ;D the boys aren't so keen on having baths though, so they have baths about once a week. but you can let your gerbils have a bath how ever many times you want...i think ;D hehe, and those gerbie films are so cute! ;D they certainly look as if they were enjoying themselves

I use a little sifter to remove any little gerbil poops from my sand bath. I find it works very well and the sand last much longer. Because as you said it is not cheap!

I usually give my gerbies a sand bath every week. Some of them seem to enjoy more than the others do. The ones who don't like it, tend to poop and pee in it. LOL! And just like Andrea, I too scoop out the poop and pee cuz the sand is expensive. I have 8 gerbils and one sand bath so I hafta make it last since I'm not working.

The dust is fine, though i would not use it for pups, or have it as soemthing the gerbil actually lives in. I have both products, and have found my gerbils prefure the dust over the sand.
I don't put the Dust/Sand bath in there tanks, I will put them in a play pen, or a bathtub (with the drains plugged) so they have a play time at the same time and do not toss bedding into the bowel.

the dust is not good for the pups, how old is only saft for the babies to hv dust bath? so when pups is around, i will not let the adult hv they bath inside then. yesterday they hv their bath again hahaha... its soo fun!!!
Kuri the sweetie enjoy the bath, clear herself nicely. but the dirty boy Kumi is the same, he still don't bath himself..YUK YUK!!! so i mix the dust with the wood shave, put in a jar, he went in n dig, cover himself with the wood shave, mintime... he hv his bath too...he looks better than nothing... hehehe..

Well I use bird sand. Some won't use it because of fear that it damages their fur. To prevent this you can sift the small pieces of shell out of the sand. Bird sand is not as expensive as Chinchilla sand or dust.
My gerbils have a sand bath in their tank, all day and night. They use it also as a toilet (so I have to clean it alot). You can also give a sandbath a few days in the week or a couple of hours a day. Depends on what your preference is!

I use chinchilla dust or sand about once a week. Then, I also use Child's Play Sand, like the sand you get for a Sand Box for kids. I leave a little in their tank and they play in it and bathe and use it as a potty. It also saves me from buying the potty litter. The sand is very fine with no chunks or anything, and its klin(sp?) baked so its very safe. And, the best part is you can get a 50 lb. bag at the hardware store for about $3.00!
