OK Yes Julian recommends the steroid injection. My vet wouldnt do that either due to gerbil size. Drunk had the baytril orally (I wouldn't allow the bottle as his 'wife' Disorderly was pregnant and I couldn't guarantee he'd get it). Hold your gerbil firmly from behind, with your finger and thumb round his neck and your other fingers holding his front paws. Forget the ribena just squirt the baytril into the gerbils cheek slowly. Use 0.1 ml (I think thats right). Here's a pic:

Eep! Thank you for that, I'll do my best!
I have seen him drinking today though, so that's good. I put half their water in a ceramic bowl because I wasn't sure if he would be able to stand up to drink from the bottle.
So if I can't manage the syringe then it's not the end of the world, is it?

Right, I tried. I managed to hold him, just about. I got the syringe possibly in his mouth... I squirted.. And he jumped a mile.. I can't be sure if it went in or what

OK it sounds liek you tried to squirt it all in at once that would be liek someone forcing a large beaker of water into your mouth!! Practice a little with the syringe and learn to push the fluid through slowly not all will end up in the gerbil I'm afraid, but more than you would guarantee from the water bottle

You're right, I need to practice! I didn't plan on squirting it all at once, it kinda slipped.. and at the same moment he squeaked and jumped.. I'll practice lots before I try again tomorrow! If he didn't like it, he may have forgiven me now, I let them play in their playground since then and only just made them go back! Sandy was in and out but Jerry didn't seem too keen on going home, more like 'right! I'm moving out! This small box is much more cosy.'

No problems its not easy I know when my eldest was little (from 3 months) he used to have epileptic fits and I used to have to give him his medicine that way. Ever tried getting medicine down a screaming baby??..........makes gerbils looks easy !!!!!!!

Wow, I salute you! So are you sure it's 0.1ml? I think I worked out that they drink roughly about 10ml of water a day.. So if 0.5ml baytril is supposed to go into 100ml water, that means he'd be getting 0.05ml in 10ml.. either that or I'm really dumb and that's all wrong.. possible And also, a drop from those syringes is 0.05ml.. Do tell me if I'm talking from my rear end

Woohoo! I'm pretty sure it went in Poor lil Jerry not happy about that though! I gave him a sunflower seed afterwards and he was like 'well.. okay.. but I'm going to nip you first. Because I don't like you.... But thank you for the seed.' He talks, he does.
