Yeah, I was figuring about 10 days with the medicine for Squirt. Just making sure. So is polysporin like neosporin? Or how about something like a triple antibiotic cream? And you just applied it to injured area? Sorry for asking dumb questions............

i had read a couple times people saying No to neosporin, but Yes to polysporn. So I stick to polysporn, trully i don't know the difference. I do know Hibitain cream is non toxic and has worked well for me in the past (on all my pets). But it's alot harder to find and a tubes like $40.... ya not cheap.

Thanx, Andrea! Now what do I do about Squirt's foot because it swelled even more. He's not even using it. I took all the gerbils out today to let them take a sand bath and play. Squirt was trying to do the sand bath and was trying to play (I didn't let him over exert himself). I can't seem to get him to eat anything, either except for sunflower seeds. Should I call and make an appointment for the vet? It seems to me like it's getting worse. Or am I just being a worry wart?

It sounds infected so yes a vet trip is needed Agreed. When he's not eating that's a bad sign. If he was eating and being normal except for the swollen foot, i woudl say keep up with the med's and stuff, but once they stop eating/drinking they can slip away real quick. I would make an appointment fairly soon, just keep up with whatt you are doing also. Oh and anything you are giving to him now, take with you to the Vet and tell/show them.

As of just alittle bit ago, Squirt was eating on his own-he picked out something other than a sunflower seed to eat and I also gave him a small carrot which he nibbled on. He was also trying to clean his face. So maybe he's not as bad off?? I mean, it looks to me like he's trying to be normal. I will call the vet anyways tomorrow to make sure.....hopefully he will recover. Thanx for the quick replies you guys!

It seems that Squirt's foot was indeed infected. Upon further inspection, there was a bite wound on his foot. He seems to be in good spirits and the vet thinks that his foot should be okay after taking the stronger antibiotcs that she prescribed for him (trimethoprim suspension). She also recommended that I pick up some children's tylenol and add it to his water to help ease the pain.
*crosses fingers that Squirt will be back to himself 100% in no time*
