So, my gerbils. The weirdest on the planet, if I do say so myself. From coming in to them hanging upside down, to them literally being cleaners and organizing their cage by placing cardboard shreddings in different organised piles. But, this story literally just happened, so Iām going to tell this one. I walk in to all their stuff on one level of their wire cage, and their water bottle half empty. Everything I picked up was soaked, and there was no way that water cold have gone out. It was tightly secured, the nozzle was on and the bottle was in the exact same place where it was last. I am completely baffled, and have no idea how this could have happened. Can someone please help? š

They might have piled bedding or nesting material under the nozzle, pushing the ball-bearings back and letting the water flow. Gerbils are just like that, it seems

Hey there!
Yeah.. Gerbils piling things in front of the water bottle where it pushes back on the bearing is VERY common. Just be sure to remove the wet bedding and replace it with dry as soon as possible and keep an eye on things as it will most likely happen again.
It also happens when they build things up around the bottle to "burrow" and nest under it. Gerbils like to be under things and have something over their head for a sense of security.
They do this sometimes even if you provide them a suitable hut to snuggle and sleep in, so it's just one of their things! Happy Gerbil-ing!
