This was the only category I guess I could find where this might work?
My only gerbil, I've had her for around two years, died last night and we had a small funeral today. I just really don't understand what she could have died from. I guess she was getting to the age where she would've died naturally, around three years old. But during the hours before she was just running around and playing and jumping like she always does. Around her last week, she started to become really affectionate and cuddle on my arm, wanting me to keep my hand over her body so she could be warm. She was never like this before, usually she wanted to run around.
I found her last night all stiff on her back with her legs out and paws crossed. Is it possible she could've been sick or something? I got her from a pet store and when I got her she was all alone in a tank and they had said, "She has some issues". She would always run into things and jump from the top of her cage bars.

I'm so sorry for your loss! If she ran into things and jumped off of things, she could've either had problems with her eyes or neurological problems. Being stiff after dying is normal though I'm pretty sure. I've had several animals pass away and they were very hard and stiff. I know dogs are very different from rodents, but my dog became very attached to me the week before she passed.

Sorry to hear about your little gerbil passing, but just like most gerbils, they don't seem to show being ill until it is too late.
It is possible that she was aging and just had a few things going wrong inside her that you couldn't see, and it all just built up over those last few weeks or months until it got too much for her.
If she did have neurological issues since she was youngster, then this would most likely be linked. But what a great life she had with you then if she actually was ill her whole life.
Bless her little soul.

sorry to hear about your gerbil, especially before xmas(I had one pass afew years ago and it was a hard xmas), may she rest in peace. sounds like she may have had some vision issues, some gerbils are just more crazy than others. Gerbils are tough for their size. Take care of yourself, Tammy
