I have a young pair I plan to breed from when they're older. I know their pups will be argente & argente cream but I'm confusing myself over whether lilac & dove are also a possibility?
Buttercup - Argente cream & one of a litter of 9. Mum is golden agouti, dad is PEW. Litter mates included argente (3), lilac (2), black (1), pew (1) & a lovely little ivory or apricot cream (not sure which & didn't see the eye colour). It's the agouti gene I'm really confused about (not very good at this!). Will Buttercup be Aa, or could she be AA?
Bowie - Lilac & one of a litter of 3. Mum is Sp golden agouti, dad is black. His brother & sister are both black. He and his sister are both Sp & although he isn't pied the colour under his tummy is quite a bit lighter than the main part of his body.
Thanks for any help!

Great question.
Genetically, you can't prove a gerbil is AA without breeding it to a full aa partner (and not getting any aa pup colours over several litters), so the fact her litter mates are lilac and black, means both her parents carry the a gene, but with her father being a PEW you won't ever know for sure if he was Aa or aa without further breeding as PEW hides all the other genes. If he was aa, then yes, Buttercup would carry the gene needed.
So Buttercup can be shown as A* Cch E* pp Uw* for now - but with a good chance that the * on the A is an a.
Bowie being Lilac has definitely got aa - so if Buttercup DOES have an a - then for sure you would get Lilac and Dove. pups.
