Hello! I’m back with another question, just kinda curious how would the rest of the gerbil community split their gerbil’s 1st litter, mom, dad. Do you pick the biggest female child to stay with the mom? Or would you go with a colour pairing? Or would you pick a pup that looks the most caring or so (not sure if theres anyway to tell personalities at weeks 4-6, haha) My kopio family currently consists of mom + dad + 1 male pup + 5 female pups. 1 of my female pups has a fixed wrist unfortunately and she’s the runt of the team (a little smaller compared to the rest of her siblings but she’s eating and drinking well so I’m not as concerned at the moment) The male pup would end up with his dad. So im left with 5 females to match 1 with her mom. Should i pick the biggest looking child? Just wanted to gather some thoughts and sharing with everyone. Thanks ^_^

I've only been through this once, but if I had to do it again, I'd pick by who hangs out the most and gets along the best.
I wanted to choose by coloring with my current gerbils, just because I figured it'd be good to easily tell them apart (the mom had one argente girl who looks just like her and two gray girls who also look identical). But the orange girl was the runt, and she started grooming her mom before any of the others, and it was so clear they had a bond...so when the mom started picking on one of the other pups, we separated them in same-color pairs. It's hard to tell them apart sometimes, but they all get along so well I know we made the right choice.
