My Grey Agouti gerbil has all clear toenails, except for the 1 or 2 toenails on every foot, which are brown. I've read that this means the gerbil is a whitepaw? I can't see a spot on her neck, but she's Grey Agouti, so it's hard to tell. I have seen a picture of two of her brothers who look like whitepaws. One has two white front paws and a quite indistinct spot on the head. The other has one white front paw. I'm not a breeder, so it doesn't really make any difference to me whether or not she is a whitepaw. I'm just curious. She has a few "quirks", like shaking her head a lot and other things. I haven't got a very good picture of her feet. However here is a picture of Lily where you can see her back foot. Another one:

Hey there! On a black.. this is considered a "White paw"
Info retained from a fantastic site called eGerbil from a while ago the definition is -- The heterozygous form of an "extreme white" is known as "White paws" and have extremely pronounced bibs and socks and often a faint head and/or neck spot and a minor belly spot. The Loci for it is known as "Sls+"
Hope this is somewhat helpful, but Shooting Star is probably best in answering this question as she's extremely knowledgeable in Color genetics and spotting.

Yes, with both clear and colored nails on the same paw, I'd say that's a WP. It can be tough to ID on white-bellied gerbils, so the nails are the best tell.

The US has WP (and EW) mimics, but so far no reports of the same gene from Europe-- i.e., no reports of RumpBlacks or Pure Whites.

I've got a Golden Agouti "Extreme White" mimic! She's actually considered a "High White" here in the US. Her name is AWW's "Resplendent" Pearl
I have to check but I don't believe I have any "White paws" in my Kennel.. would be fun though! BUT.. I could check her. So if she has light and dark nails on her paws would she be a "High White-White Paw" Mimic or can she only be one or the other??

Extreme White minus the spotting gene is a WhitePaw. Likewise, an EW-mimic (High White) without spotting would be a WP-mimic. In the US, the WP-mimics are generally called "Tuxedo". Tuxedo is also sometimes used to refer to mini-spots (Dom Spot with very low white), so if you're getting a "tuxedo" for breeding, make sure you find out whether it's from a high-white or low-white line.
