Hi. I have three, 4 month old gerbils. They are brothers. One of them who I suspect was probably the runt, Otis, is definitely a little delayed. He was born with a fixed wrist which I don’t think is the issue, but he just seems a little physically delayed. He’s... idk, weak... he runs around just fine, but can barely pull himself up. Other than that, he acts completely normal, other than the fact that his brothers are crazy and are always jumping around trying to be with me, so it’s been harder to socialize with him. Is there something wrong? He doesn’t show any other signs of sickness. Kate, another user, told me that the Care fresh bedding made her gerbil act strangely weak too. But he isn’t sneezing and his eyes are clear. What’s wrong??

Perhaps he has a neurological disorder? Just a guess. Or maybe he has had a stroke (this would explain his weakness, though he is a little young for that). Other than those ideas, I'm not sure what's going on with him. Hopefully someone else can give you some insight on this.

I would try a different bedding, aspen is good as long as it's not dusty(some say less dusty, etc.) and see if that helps. if you are really worried, I'd get a vet to check him out esp. if he seems to be getting worse or there are other symptoms.

He looks just a little rough, only a little, but acts normal otherwise. I’m not really sure what bedding to switch them to since so many people have so many different experiences with everything, and some things come in large expensive quantities, which are a little much for me. I have to save up for almost everything I get for them so I’m on a budget but whatevers best I will do my best to get for their health. I appreciate all the help, This is just very stressful for me. I used to have a gerbil (Though he was 4 years old) Who had a stroke and died and it was very sad.... it just seemed like everything went wrong over night

maybe he just needs a sand bath if it's only his fur? or is he acting weird? Try not to stress out about it, just do what you can, pet supplies can be expensive. Sorry to hear about your 4 year old gerbil, I have an older gerbil with a growing tumor and while she is well, this lump is not looking good, so know about stress of having gerbils with issues. You can use cornmeal, sold in bulk, to see if that helps his fur.

Alright thanks I appreciate it. I’m really sorry to hear about your gerbil as well, and I hope you sort out the best thing to do for her. I think I might have some cornmeal lying around somewhere...
