Hi, recently I found something hard in Keswick's abdomen under her ribs, on her right hand side. On her left she has an ovarian cyst but this new lump (sort of grape sized) feels different, more like the one Kendal got before she died. The vets found a mass when they x-rayed her 2 months ago, but we assumed this was the cyst. She's acting normally, eating drinking and pooing and being inquisitive and scuttles when held. However it's hard to tell as they do hide pain well... She's been on Metacam for a few days which has perked her up as she was a bit quieter before that.
Could it be anything other than the big C? If it is, can surgery help with non-scent gland tumours? Not entirely sure I could put her through it but I get worried when I feel it. I don't think they're supposed to be on Metacam for a long time are they? She is 2 and 8 months which doesn't help.. Don't know what to do. I will get her booked in for the vet to have a feel and discuss it but wanted some insight. Thanks

I was wondering how Keswick was doing, sorry to hear you found another lump but try not worry until she is checked over. I would ask the vet about the Metacam as well, I try to only use it when necessary and a very short time. I know the worry about lumps on gerbils, my Saphie has a growing mammary tumor since feb., she is doing well but this lump now has an open sore on it that i'm treating, but it's not worrying her at all so am trying to remain calm even though it looks bad-must be benign. Just make sure she is eating and drinking, stick with healthy foods without sugar (prefer. not fruits) and just keep her happy and stay calm. Take care, Tammy

Thanks, It actually feels softer and more liquid today, strangely. She just keeps going, she's a soldier I agree about the metacam, wouldn't want to pickle her liver and she doesn't like taking it that much. Will see what the vet thinks, I'm sure she can beat this.

it could be an abscess or another cyst, fingers crossed she will be okay

An abscess makes sense as it has harder bits than others in it. The nurse on the phone suggested a fine needle aspiration which is a good idea and not too invasive. Will keep you updated, she's still in a good mood and enjoying her sand and food.

glad she is still well despite her issues. I was able to get the scab off of Saphie and found the hole, flushed it and put on some manuka honey, will wait awhile and then do it again but with less honey as it is very sticky and want her dry well before bed. she bit me but i'm sure it hurt, her bump is nasty but luckily I don't get ill and things don't gross me out like that. She is acting normal and even licking me so I will go as long as she is willing. luckily for her I don't have a life, lol, so have time to be her nurse.

Awww bless you both. Is honey an antiseptic? I hope it's healing nicely. We are booked in at the vets tomorrow!

good luck tomorrow. The honey may not heal it as it's large wound but will give me more time with her and help with any pain, she is doing okay despite this but taking it day by day, sadly she doesn't have much time left.

Been to the vets, the good news is we have agreed its not wise to do any investigations if she is acting normally and eating and drinking etc as she might not wake up from the sedation, but she agreed I was right to get it looked at. She can feel the lump I mean but can't make a definite diagnosis without diagnostics. She weed at the vet upside down, and when she was on the scales, haha!!
I have metacam at home just in case. Even if it is a tumour, I wouldn't want to put her through surgery in an alien place after the other things she's been through. It's a financial relief as well!
