Hi,
My 2 and a half year old boy, Ares, has a wart-like tumor on his scent gland that has grown a little over the last few months, but very slowly. I have him booked in for a tumor removal next week but I'm terrified that he might not survive the operation, and he's otherwise perfectly happy, and this tumor is only a few mms big.
Really not sure whether to remove it now or wait a bit longer, as I know it gets harder to remove the bigger it gets.
Does anyone know how successful these surgeries are usually?
Thanks

I would only have the surgery if the vet is very experienced and has done many successful surgeries on small animals and he/she can remove the whole gland, not just the tumor. Also depends on cost, what you can spend and the stress of putting the pet and yourself through the surgery knowing he may not survive. Good luck. I had to make this decision, decided not to for many reasons, she has lived many months but now I may need her put down soon as she is growing abit worse. Take care.

Update: We went through with it in the end as I've had a male have a scent gland tumor before that was too big to operate on and it was uncomfortable for him when it got too bad. Ares did amazingly! The vet is one that I trust and she is very experienced with exotics so she did a good job. He was an inpatient with his brother for the day and the nurses all fell in love with them Sorry to hear about your gerbil, I hope they are enjoying their last few months with you <3
